Jason B. Allen

Lab Manager, Senior Researcher

Jason Allen is the Chicago Zoological Society’s Sarasota Dolphin Research Program (SDRP) Lab Manager and a Senior Researcher. He began his career working with the critically endangered hawksbill sea turtle. While attending Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL, he joined the Eckerd College Dolphin Project (ECDP), a bottlenose dolphin photographic-identification study that was originally modeled after processes and procedures pioneered by the SDRP. After graduating with a BS in Marine Science, Jason joined the SDRP team in 2001 and became Lab Manager in 2006.

Jason oversees the day-to-day operations of the lab, maintains and improves the photo-ID databases and catalogs, and participates in most field projects. He most enjoys sharing the tools and techniques SDRP has developed through 50 years of conservation research through mentoring interns, graduate students, and other researchers from around the world.
